When you are out in town and on the go and a simple sausage roll beckons, there’s one word that springs to mind - Greggs .

It is something of a culinary national treasure in this country, tempting thousands with its array of pastries, bakes and sweet treats.

Apparently, even Hollywood actor Jake Gyllenhaal is said to be a fan.

But Greggs has always been a place to go in the day time – currently the latest time Greggs shuts in Bath is 6pm.

Well, this travesty is now being addressed as Greggs is launching a dinner menu.

Greggs want to feed the masses post-6pm and has been trialling chicken goujons, potato wedges and pasta dishes, reports The Sun.

The trial has been going on in over 100 restaurants in places like Manchester, London and Newcastle.

Greggs has already introduced hot food to the breakfast menu, like the bacon roll

Chief executive of Greggs, Roger Whiteside explained to The Guardian the decision to do this: “We are testing a menu that will appeal in the evening, which is the part of the day when Greggs doesn’t trade.

“We need to find out if we can we sell hot food at the times we are already open.”

Greggs has already spiced up its menu recently, adding a Katsu chicken bake in 2017 as well as a coconut, lime and chilli chicken wrap.

Greggs had a strong 2017 and, as reported last year , plans to open over 100 new stores around the country this year, as well as drive-through shops.

If this trial proves to be successful it's likely it will be introduced across most city centre stores.
