A fast food restaurant has won praise after leaving free food for the homeless outside its shop every night after closing.

Bosu Body Bar gives away leftover food at the end of the day to help people in need.

And the owners' act of kindness has gone viral after they posted a Facebook photo showing takeaway bags on the floor, with messages reading "Share", "Eat me" and "Enjoy".

It's all part of the restaurant's initiative called The Bosu Project to help people who are less fortunate and avoid food going to waste, the Manchester Evening News reports.

It is now in talks with charities to arrange collections and ensure that the leftover food finds its way to the right people.

The restaurant, in Cross Street, Manchester city centre, wrote on Facebook: "When we close the doors for the day, we promise to leave bags outside full of tasty food.

"If you see anyone on the streets of Manchester or Didsbury who look hungry, let them know where they can find a meal in a bag.

"Spread the love always."

Michael Beck, who runs the restaurant with his sister Sarah and business partners Oliver Drummond and Josef Ramzi-Faddoul, said he was surprised by the reaction to the post.

He said: "We post pictures of food all day long and sometimes they don't get any attention, then we woke up the next morning and I've never seen that many likes and shares.

"It was quite overwhelming. We're not the only ones doing it and we're certainly not the only people who care about people in need, but hopefully other people who have seen it will now do the same.

"It's either that or the bin, it's as simple as that."

Michael said they would be giving leftover food to homeless charities and shelters from now on rather than leaving it outside to ensure it goes to the people who need it most and is kept at the right temperature.

Facebook users heaped praise on the restaurant, with one writing: "I work for a homeless charity for young people. I will be telling them about this project, such a nice idea."

Another added: "What a lovely thing to do, we need more people like that in this world."

The response to the post has also inspired the Bosu team to start collecting hats, scarves and warm clothing, which customers can drop off in store to be given to people in need over the winter months.
