KUCHING: A fast food chain outlet at Jalan Tun Ahmad Zaidi Adruce here was given the closure order after health authorities found its cleanliness not up to the mark.

State Health director Dr Jamilah Hashim confirmed the closure order on the premises  but appealed for public understanding, saying it was just part of the routine work of the Kuching Health Office.

“When the staff from our office did its routine inspection, they discovered the premises’ cleanliness was not up to the mark. A provision of an Act allowed them to issue the closure order so that the outlet operator could then start cleaning the premises,” she said yesterday.

She was clarifying a social media posting that the outlet was closed after receiving a notice issued under Section 11 of the Food Act 1983 on Wednesday.

The notice mentioned that the premises will be closed for two weeks starting Dec 13, 2017 to allow the restaurant operator to do the necessary cleaning up prior to a follow-up inspection by Kuching Health Office.

Dr Jamilah confirmed they will do a follow-up on the matter.

She assured the public that once her office is satisfied with the level of cleanliness of the premises, the restaurant will be in operation again.

She said the priority of the state Health Department was to ensure that food outlets, food centres and restaurants are clean and that food served are safe for consumption by the public.
