A major American fast food chain is set to test the resolve the New Year's resolutions of many Australians as it begins saturation of the nation.

Iconic burger company Carl's Jnr is set to launch the first of eight Queensland restaurants for 2018, with Brisbane residents the recipients of the opening store.

'We want to be a destination restaurant and we want to establish the brand as an entity,' Bansal Group general manager Shawn Kerr said.

'Everyone knows our opposition by name, but when people say Carl's Jr they don't immediately think flame-grilled hamburgers and we have to work on that.'

The chain will launch restaurants across the sunshine state, with stores opening in Redbank Plains, the Gold Coast, Toowoomba, Townsville and Rockhampton.

There is already a small 'kiosk' style store in Brisbane Airport.

'We will be going into metro areas but we want to give ourselves the best opportunity for success and get our branding right and you don't want to rely solely on CBD locations for survival.'

The initial store, in Redbank Plains, will open to the public on Thursday.

The restaurant will have 110 employees and will have a more Australian-centric menu than it's US equalivalents, including the popular Portobello Mushroom burger.

There are currently four stores total in Australia, and the company's website says new restaurants in Victoria and South Australia are also on the horizon.
