SOUTH PLAINFIELD - Chick-Fil-A may be coming to the borough if the zoning board approves a variance and a site plan for the fast-food eatery to build a 5,000-square-foot location at Middlesex Mall.

The variance would allow Chick-Fil-A to build a drive-through window, according to borough documents, as well as four signs instead of one. One of those signs would hang lower than allowed by ordinance.

Also, about 500 fewer parking spaces have been proposed than required, along with a 24-foot-wide, two-way driveway, which is one foot less than required.

The plan will go before the zoning board at 7 p.m. Oct. 16 in borough hall at 2480 Plainfield Ave. The shopping center is located at 4801 Stelton Road.

Other Central Jersey Chick-Fil-A locations include Flemington, Edison, Woodbridge and another to be built in Old Bridge. Another is proposed in Watchung.
