KFC, purveyor of fried poultry in various shapes and sizes, has teamed up with Call of Duty UK to launch a Black Ops 4 Blackout tournament called KFC Royale that will see players get the chance to win not only a share of a £50k prize pot but also potential lifetime of free chicken via a coveted KFC Black Card.

The fast food chain's gaming project - unsurprisingly called KFC Gaming - has been engaging with players and streamers on social media since it launched in September 2018, but is now attempting to make its mark in earnest with a competition to find the best homegrown players of BLOPS 4's battle royale mode.

16 UK-based YouTube content creators are acting as mentors for KFC Gaming community members, who will then take part in qualifiers to whittle down competitors in 1 v 1 matches. The qualifying rounds began on January 17 and are taking places over a period of 5 weeks.

The grand finals - taking place on February 24 - will then see a 2 v 2 format, with contestants pairing up with one of the participating YouTube celebs. Whoever comes out on top will net £15k and a Black Card, with the remaining £35k, shared between the runner-ups.

As for that Black Card? Well, while fellow battle royale game PUBG has been awarding figurative 'chicken dinners' to players who win a round, KFC Royale will be offering a chance to join the exclusive echelons of Black Card holders who can get up to £200-worth of free KFC food a day according to former TOWIE star (and KFC Black Card owner) Joey Essex.

Contestants face a few caveats for entry, however. The tournament is for PlayStation 4 players only, and anyone who's previously taken part in the Call of Duty World League is unable to participate.
