    McDonald's Halal certificate gives it a jhatka in India

    After Zomato, McDonald's has found itself in a soup over religion related issues. The fast food chain is facing severe backlash over Twitter after it told its customers that it only serves Halal meat.

    "All our restaurants have HALAL certificates. You can ask the respective restaurant Managers to show you the certificate for your satisfaction and confirmation," McDonald's India tweeted yesterday.

    The tweet stroked a huge controversy with many questioning why the fast-food chain is serving halal meat in a country where 80 per cent people are non-Muslims.

    At the time of writing the story, #boycottmcdondalds was trending in Twitter in India.



    Earlier, Zomato found itself at the center of a controversy after it said that food doesn't have any religion in response to a customer declining to accept an order delivered by a Muslim.

    Though initially it was praised by many for standing up against religious bigotry, many slammed it for raking the issue up for its own benefit.
